Yonex Percept 100D

The Yonex Percept 100D is a heavier version of the Percept 100 by 5g. The extra 5g and the tighter string pattern of 18x19 make this racquet a top contender for the best control racquet of the year. In my opinion, this racquet is a much more appealing option than the Head Gravity Pro because it is much easier to use and is not as flexible. The Yonex Percept 100D has a classic feel because the flex point is in the throat, but the added 5g adds more plow-through than the basic Percept 100. This racquet is soft, like catching a ball in your hand and then throwing the ball in whatever direction you want it to go. The racquet generates enough power to keep you competitive without having to swing out on the ball for every shot. The racquet doesn't ever leave you hanging on defense. Despite the power, it is controllable power because of the flex and the ball pocketing that this racquet offers.

On groundstrokes, you're able to rip the ball or play it safe with neutral rally shots without fear of hitting the ball long. The racquet generates enough spin to give you a larger margin for error without having to change your stroke too much. The racquet is arm-friendly and plush, but still firm. The racquet is forgiving on off-center shots, however, it does offer feedback that lets you know that you hit the ball outside the sweet spot. The Servo Filter still mutes the feel of the racquet, but I think that with the right strings, you could definitely get more feel out of the racquet.

Volleys are solid with this racquet. The racquet simply absorbs the impact of the ball and allows you to pick what you want to do with your shot. The racquet has incredible touch and allows you to hit drop volleys even when the ball is hit hard at you. Even though I had a racquet with a handle that was a size smaller than what I am used to using, the frame never twisted in my hand.

Returns were a little more middle-of-the-road. On returns, the sweet spot felt smaller and it felt a little less forgiving. The twisting in the frame was significantly more noticeable during returns. Serving is an absolute pleasure with this racquet. When serving, you have so much mobility that you can swing this racquet fast and generate tons of spin. The racquet was excellent for kick and flat serves, but it did tend to struggle a bit on slice serves.

Overall, I think that this racquet is an excellent choice for intermediate to advanced players who consider themselves to be all-courters. This racquet does most things extremely well and doesn't have any major cons. I could see myself switching to this racquet and really enjoying playing with it completely stock. Spot on review. I tried this racket and owned a Gravity Pro and agree, feels similar to GP but Percept 100D is easier to play with (and maintains great control, feel, spin and power). Doesn't feel like 18x19. The spin generation is excellent.
